Independence Day

Over the years, the meaning of Independence Day has changed for me.

In school, it was a day to go to school despite it being a holiday, one of the few days of the year, when we sang the national anthem and one of the two days of the year, when the national flag was unfurled. But it was still something I could relate to remotely.

During college, I-Day was associated with Malhar elims, and except for the morning flag ceremony, it was just another day of college festivals. Independence day still had some value.

Today, it was a day I caught up on some long pending sleep, and rest and went for a movie.
It's not that I am not patriotic.

I still sing the national anthem aloud before every movie, despite people staring at me as if I have lost it, India is the only country I want to live forever, even as far as travelling is concerned, India is the first geographic region I want to explore, and all my dream destinations of travel are in India. Hindi is still on top of my list as a favourite language and the dream languages I want to learn are all India: Bangla, Punjabi et al.

I truly believe in the potential of India, if I didn't why would I love every bit of it? Why would I want to stay here and help build it?

I really respect what our leaders and forefathers must have gone through to get us the freedom, we sometimes take for granted. My only point of contention about this day is that as a newer generation, living with new experiences, struggling with the concerns of our time, as a generation struggling to find leaders we can look up to, we find it difficult to relate to this day.

It's not that we aren't patriotic; any one would just have to say one word against India to see how passionately we love it and defend it.

I love my country! And respect it!

Miracles??

She met her Creator at the gates of the life beyond. Seeing her face marked by aeons of misery and tiredness, God said sheepishly, apologetically, “I am sorry my child I couldn’t give you all those beautiful sunsets your heart desired, all the miracles your heart needed.”

And she looked God in the eye and said, “So You really didn’t understand me, did You? I never asked for beautiful sunsets, only that all of mine be with him. I never asked you for miracles, only for a simple life with him.”

And God sunk low on his throne, defeated.

The Farmer and the Poet

A Farmer was tilling his land on a bright sunny day, dreaming of the sweetness of his fruits of labour, when a Poet passed by the road along his land.

Proud of his labour's work, the farmer called out to the Poet, "Oh kind sir! Have a look at my labour's fruit. I till the land to feed the stomachs of my fellow-men and nourish their bodies. Of what greater good is your idle poetry?"

Smiling at that question oft asked by all, the Poet replied, "I till words to nourish your soul. For when your soul trembles like a a candle when touched by another soul, I give you the words that your heart wants to sing, but your tongue can't."

Love is...

Love is when I get late and my father is waiting for me for dinner.

Love is when my brother leaves all the ripe and sweeter pieces of the mango for me.

Love is when I am missing my best friend and I get a handwritten letter from her along with a gift whose meaning only the both of us would understand.

Love is the relief I feel when I talk to my friend.

Love is when my friends understand what exactly what I am feeling even if they are halfway across the globe....by just the look on my face.

Love is being disturbed from work by the right people.

Love is giving surprises to those you love.

Love is in the smallest of things....

The Moment of Truth

The moment of truth of falling in love is one of the most special ones in one's life. Here's to that moment of truth....that is special because:

You realise that that person is more important to you than anyone else and you care for that person more than anyone else you care for, and sometimes even more than yourself.

There is this feeling of knowing something about that person that no one else knows..may be that has been discovered through your togetherness..and that feeling that you understand and know that person better than anyone else.

The agony of being away from that person and not being able to think of anyone else... the ecstasy of forgetting all else when you are with that person.

The butterflies in your stomach when seeing that person smile and the feeling of knowing that you are the reason for the smile.

The first person who comes to your mind when you want to share some news...good or bad....

You just know that the person will pick up your call whenever you call, however busy they may be. And that you can talk to that person for hours about anything and everything under the sun and not feel tired or bored......

Here's to the moment that is wonderfully amazingly special and to the hope that everyone finds that moment of truth in their lives......

Blessings

Walking through the meadows,
Hand in hand
Walking on the rocky roads
Still hand in hand...

Simple prayers said,
Great blessings received

Laughing through the god times
Hand in hand
Singing through the tough ones
Still hand in hand...

Simple prayers said,
Great blessings received

Walking through the sunshine,
Hand in hand
Dancing through the rains
Still hand in hand

Simplest prayers said,
Greatest blessings received.

A Tribute to "Friends for Life"

I have been reading my friend's (Kirti's) latest series of blogs that are a tribute to all her special friends. Here's my love for my friends..to all the wonderful things I learn from them:

Sanaya: I admire your courage and patience and ability to be calm under pressure. I learn it from you, so hang in there honey!!! We love you!

Vidhi: Her kick-ass attitude and the fact that she doesn't take bullshit from life....learning from you love.....

Kirti: For letting her head rule, because I let my heart rule....you complement me jaan...

Mukul: For his perceptiveness...something we don't give him credit for....but you are great at reading people especially your friends....

Bhavik: His sense of humour...which may not be the best but it never fails to bring a smile to my face (either that or really irritate me!!!)

Akshay: I wish I had even half his charm and ability to talk..I would have gotten out of many sticky situations in life.

Varun: I admire his maturity and silent strength...and the fact that we both like the same books and can talk about them.

Radhika: For her sheer grit and determination to live life as she chooses to.....you are really great jaan!

This is to all my friends. Thank you guys for always being there!

True Love

I believe that true love does not need special or grand gestures. Love can be found in the most mundane of things.

When true love comes to you, it does not come with a blare of trumpets and a grand procession. If it strikes you like a thunderbolt, its just attraction. True love just seeps into you day by day and becomes a part of your being even before you may know it.

True love does not need you to meet everyday or have a date quite often.....it is glad in knowing that the person you love is safe and happy.

In true love , there is no place for jealousy because trust takes up too much of the space.

In true love there are no sacrifices too, as when you "sacrifice" something, you are actually just passing on something you value to your loved one.

True love is when you are a team, where there is no me or you. True love is the celebration of an "us".
