Being Different!

George Clooney says in the movie Up in the Air: "...I stereotype.......its faster!" Stereotyping: believing that a person has certain traits (good or bad) just because he/she belongs to a particular social group...."all fat people are jolly or unhealthy...etc etc etc"

Well I do have a huge thing against stereotyping probably because I have been breaking all moulds that I am or have been aware of....

The countless number of times I have heard "This is not how girls behave" or "You are so not 'worthy' of being called a Gujju" etc etc etc...and have laughed or shrugged it off feeling better.

I always try to relate to people as individuals rather than as members of some community or group. Its not that I underestimate the value of those groups or the influence they have on people, its just that I feel that every person is unique and we should give them some credit for it.

My First Live Cricket Match

Music noise cheering 10,000 people one soul........... cheering for Sachin Tendulkar......all other experiences of watching a cricket match live for the first time pale in comparison to the tribute crowds across the world pay to this legend irrespective of what team they support......

Who is Weaker?

There are people who show their emotions and there are some who hide them well.

I was always confused as to who of these are stronger?

Those who show their emotions have recognized them and accepted them, simple! They are not afraid of them, they accept them and are not afraid to show them. But they are termed as weak because we consider it a weakness to show our emotions. That's why we are uncomfortable when someone around us cries.

I am not saying that those who do not express their emotions freely have not accepted them. I feel they are somewhere between the stages of accepting them and being comfortable with them. And we call such people strong? Is the society right in labelling such people strong?

Time to think I guess!

Tribute to New Beginnings: Happy New Year!!

New Year means new beginnings.....even if we Indians celebrate new years 'n' number of times in a year: from Jan 1st (partying begins a day early), to New Year after Diwali and New year on Gudi Padwa and everyone's birthday to is a beginning of a new year of their life and everyone has two birthdays (one solar and one lunar)....and then there is Navroze and other New Years as per various other beliefs....so the list is endless........phew!!

Anyways, here's to new beginnings: beginnings that are awesome!!!

To freshly sharpened pencils and crisp paged notebooks..the beginning of new learnings (geek!!)

To a child's first smile and steps...the beginning of a new life.....

To the onset of monsoon and the season of joy and love:

Well, at least we get sooooo many opportunities to start all over every year!!! So Happy New Year All!!!!

Celebrating My Friends

Friends are all your prayers answered even before you say them!!!

That's why you get together to celebrate all your happy moments even if it may be 9 in the night at a train station! Or do whatever it takes to see them be it a Sitcom -like twisted plot that you create...that brings that warm feeling to their heart and yours......

For the past two days I haven't stopped gushing about what amazing days I have had...thanks to 4 really amazing people in my life whom I call my friends....

Seasons come and go,
Leaves fall and grow,
But some things never end,
And you call them friends!!

The Best Things in Life are Simple:

We love complicating our lives, because the more complicated they are, the more important we feel.
Its true for all of us, even I do it sometimes........so that I don't feel left out...or different from others.

But I truly do believe that the best things in life are simple. Like life's best lesson is taught to us in a nursery rhyme when we are really young:

Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is like a dream.

Another example is us buying the most complicated phones and cameras with sooooo many features and buttons and knobs, to capture "good pictures", whereas the best pictures are those in our minds of some of the best days when we did not have a camera around to capture the beauty of that moment.

The best teachers we have had are not those with a lot of knowledge but those who have been able to reach out and touch us by making what they know simple.....think about it!

I am not saying life is always simple: I do know how complicated life and things can be and I am not taking it trivially. But then we should always try our best to make it simple!! Because it is complicated enough without us trying our best to make it worse!
